Stephen Chesnoff specializes in trademark, copyright and entertainment law matters. He has had extensive experience on the corporate side of the practice of intellectual property law as head of the J C Penney Company’s trademark and copyright department. He more recently was Associate General Counsel, and staff Vice President and head of the worldwide pharmaceutical and consumer products company, Bristol-Myers Squibb’s trademark and copyright department. At one time, Bristol-Myers Squibb had one of the world’s largest trademark portfolios which included such marks as; CLAIROL, EXCEDRIN, WINDEX, TAXOL, BUFFERIN, ENFIMIL, and others.

In his corporate positions he was responsible for clearing major trademarks for the corporations; he also supervised major litigation, enforcing and defending trademark rights of the corporation, including Internet issues. He was involved with many corporate acquisitions which involved trademark and copyright due diligence. He supervised foreign subsidiary intellectual property activity ( BMS-UPSA Pharmaceutical, France) as well as international trademark filings for the domestic companies.

He prepared trademark license agreements as well as celebrity endorsement agreements. He was also active in bar association activities and was Treasurer of INTA. Since leaving the corporate arena he has been associated with two NYC law firms as of counsel practicing trademark and copyright law. He is quite familiar with all sides and aspects of the practice of trademark and copyright law.
